Joseph Micklethwait 1808-1850. Born in Gowdall, Snaiths Parish, Yorkshire, England. Emigrated to Portsmouth, Scioto County, Ohio, USA in 1831. Married 16 May 1832 in Scioto, Ohio. Moved into the Red Brick house built by his wife Barbara on her land. The house became known as the 'Micklethwait homestead'. Joseph farmed the land.
