Served Royal Navy in second World War in Tribal Class destroyers. Awarded first of 3 D.S.O.s in 1939, second in 1940 at 2nd Battle of Narvik and third in 1942 at Battle of Sirte in Mediterranean. Captured Tobruk in 1942 and Prisoner-of-war in Italy and Germany until 1945. Retired as Rear Admiral in 1954. High Sheriff, Monmouthshire 1959 and Deputy Lieutenant 1960.
